Beginning Sunday, November 1, we're launching a brand-new sermon series at Westside Church called CHANGED: Jesus Changes Everything!

Over the next several weeks, we'll walk through the book of Philippians and discover how Jesus changes the way we see our circumstances, the way we live, the way we treat people, what we value, how we face worry, and what it means to truly have enough.

The apostle Paul wrote Philippians from prison, yet his words overflow with joy, purpose, and confidence in Christ. Why? Because his circumstances didn't determine his outlook. Jesus did!

And the same Jesus who changed Paul's life is still changing lives today!

DAY 4 — STORMS THAT EXPOSE US READ Jonah 4 STORM WARNING The sea was calm. The fish was gone. Nineveh had repented. Yet Jonah was angry. The greatest storm in the book wasn’t on the Mediterranean Sea. It was in Jonah’s heart. Sometimes God uses storms to reveal what has been hidden beneath the surface. Pride, bitterness, selfishness, jealousy, and resentment often emerge when life doesn’t go according to our plans. God wasn’t only interested in changing Jonah’s behavior. He wanted to change Jonah’s heart. THINK ABOUT IT 1. What attitudes tend to surface when life becomes difficult? 2. Has God revealed something in your heart through a recent storm? 3. Are you willing to let God address the deeper issues beneath the surface? PUT IT INTO PRACTICE Ask God to reveal any attitude, habit, or mindset that needs to be surrendered to Him. THIS WEEK, REMEMBER… God often uses storms to reveal what calm weather can conceal.

DAY 3 — STORMS THAT CHANGE US READ Jonah 3 STORM WARNING One of the most encouraging verses in Jonah is found at the beginning of chapter three: “The word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time.” God didn’t give up on Jonah. After the storm, after the fish, and after Jonah’s failure, God still had a purpose for his life. God’s goal in correction is never destruction. His goal is transformation. He disciplines us so that we can become who He created us to be. The storm changed Jonah’s direction, and that changed the lives of an entire city. THINK ABOUT IT 1. How has God used failure to shape your character? 2. What “second chance” has God given you? 3. How might your obedience impact others around you? PUT IT INTO PRACTICE Take one step of obedience today in an area where God has been speaking to you. THIS WEEK, REMEMBER… God corrects us not to condemn us but to change us.

DAY 2 — STORMS THAT SAVE US READ Jonah 2 STORM WARNING Most people think the fish was Jonah’s punishment. In reality, the fish was Jonah’s rescue. Had God not appointed the fish, Jonah would have drowned in the sea. What looked like judgment was actually mercy. Sometimes God’s correction comes in packages we don’t immediately recognize. The very circumstance we wish God would remove may be the tool He’s using to save us. God’s discipline is not evidence that He has abandoned us. It is evidence that He loves us enough to pursue us. THINK ABOUT IT 1. Have you ever looked back and realized God was protecting you through a difficult season? 2. What circumstance in your life might actually be God’s mercy in disguise? 3. How does knowing God loves you change your view of correction? PUT IT INTO PRACTICE Thank God for a difficult season that ultimately produced something good in your life. THIS WEEK, REMEMBER… What feels like punishment may actually be God’s rescue.

STORM TESTED—Week 1: Correction Storms Some storms are meant to change us. The Book of Jonah reminds us that God loves His children too much to leave them where they are. Sometimes He uses storms to get our attention, redirect our path, reveal our hearts, and draw us back to Himself. As you read through Jonah this week, ask yourself: What might God be teaching me through the storms in my life? DAY 1 — STORMS THAT STOP US READ all of Jonah 1 STORM WARNING Jonah knew what God wanted him to do, but he chose another direction. He boarded a ship headed away from Nineveh and away from God’s command. Then the storm came. The storm wasn’t an accident. It wasn’t bad luck. It wasn’t even satan’s attack. The Lord sent it. Sometimes God allows storms into our lives to stop us before we drift farther from Him. Like a loving parent correcting a child, God intervenes because He cares too much to let us continue down a dangerous path. A storm may feel like an interruption, but it could actually be an invitation to return to God. THINK ABOUT IT 1. Is there an area of your life where you’ve been resisting God’s direction? 2. Has God ever used a difficult circumstance to get your attention? 3. What might God be trying to stop in your life right now? PUT IT INTO PRACTICE Spend a few moments asking God to reveal any area where you’ve been running from His will. THIS WEEK, REMEMBER… Some storms are sent to stop us before sin takes us farther than we intended to go.

FRIDAY – The Greater King Read: Acts 13:36-39 Heart Surgery David died. His kingdom ended. His body saw decay. But God’s promises continued. The story was never ultimately about David. It was about Jesus. David points us to a King who never dies. A kingdom that never ends. A Savior who offers forgiveness and eternal life. David’s final words point forward to Christ. Think About It * Why is it important that David’s story leads to Jesus? * How is Jesus different from every earthly king? * What hope do we have because Christ lives? Put It Into Practice * Worship Jesus as the eternal King. * Place your hope in Christ rather than earthly achievements. * Share the hope of the Gospel with someone this week. THURSDAY – The Promise Beyond the Grave Read: Psalm 23:4-6 Heart Surgery David spent much of his life facing danger. Lions. Bears. Giants. Enemies. But eventually he faced his final enemy—death itself. Even there, David’s confidence remained in the Lord. His hope was not in his accomplishments. His hope was in God’s presence. Think About It * Why does death cause fear for so many people? * How does faith change the way we view death? * What comfort do we find in God’s presence? Put It Into Practice * Thank God for the hope believers have in Christ. * Encourage someone walking through grief. * Live each day with eternity in mind. WEDNESDAY – Finishing Well Read: 2 Timothy 4:6-8 Heart Surgery Paul’s words echo David’s perspective. Near the end of his life, Paul wasn’t focused on regrets. He focused on faithfulness. “I have fought the good fight.” Finishing well isn’t about perfection. It’s about perseverance. Both David and Paul experienced failures. Yet both remained focused on the Lord. Think About It * What does it mean to finish well? * Why is perseverance often harder than beginning? * What habits help people remain faithful over time? Put It Into Practice * Stay faithful in ordinary obedience today. * Refuse to quit when spiritual growth feels slow. * Focus on consistency rather than perfection. TUESDAY – The Legacy of Faithfulness Read: 1 Kings 2:1-4 Heart Surgery As David nears death, he speaks to Solomon. His final concern isn’t wealth. It isn’t power. It isn’t success. It is faithfulness. David knew kingdoms rise and fall. The most valuable thing he could pass to the next generation was a relationship with God. Think About It * What kind of legacy are you building right now? * What lessons are you passing to the next generation? * What do you hope people remember most about your life? Put It Into Practice * Invest intentionally in someone younger than you. * Share a testimony of God’s faithfulness with your family. * Live in a way that points others toward Christ. MONDAY – What Matters Most at the End This week we’ll look at the final chapters of David’s life. As David approached the end, his focus shifted away from accomplishments, victories, and achievements. Instead, he reflected on God’s faithfulness, God’s promises, and God’s kingdom. One day, each of us will leave behind a legacy. The question is not whether we’ll leave one—but what kind of legacy it will be. As we walk through these passages, let’s consider what truly matters when life is coming to a close. Read: 2 Samuel 23:1-5 Heart Surgery David could have talked about Goliath. He could have talked about military victories. He could have talked about becoming king. Instead, his last recorded words focus on God. At the end of life, David wasn’t impressed with David. He was impressed with the Lord. Think About It * What do people spend most of their lives pursuing? * Why do priorities often change as people get older? * If you knew your time was short, what would matter most? Put It Into Practice * Evaluate what currently receives most of your time and attention. * Thank God for His faithfulness throughout your life. * Focus on eternal priorities rather than temporary accomplishments. FRIDAY – God Can Redeem What Feels Broken Joel 2:25–26 Heart Surgery: God speaks through Joel: “I will restore…” That word matters. Some people feel like too much damage has been done. Too many years lost. Too many wounds carried. But restoration is one of the things God does best. David’s family experienced pain, division, and consequences. Yet God’s story continued. Brokenness does not stop God from working. Read: Joel 2:25–26 Think About It: * Why is restoration sometimes hard to believe in? * What areas of your life or family need God’s healing touch? * How does hope grow in difficult situations? Put It Into Practice: * Pray specifically for healing and restoration in your family. * Take one small step toward peace or reconciliation where possible. * Trust that God can still bring beauty from broken places. Our One Day Kids Camp is almost here, and we’re excited to see how God is going to use each volunteer to make an impact in the lives of kids! THURSDAY – Grace for Imperfect People Romans 3:23–24 Heart Surgery: Every family has flaws because every person has flaws. Some dysfunction comes from deep sin. Some comes from weakness, immaturity, or brokenness. But the Gospel reminds us: “All have sinned…” No family is perfect. No person is perfect. And yet grace is still available. Read: Romans 3:23–24 Think About It: * Why do we sometimes expect perfection from imperfect people? * How does grace reshape the way we see others? * What happens when we stop pretending everything is fine? Put It Into Practice: * Extend grace where you’ve only held resentment. * Be honest about your own need for forgiveness. * Allow God’s grace to soften your heart toward others. Starting Wednesday, June 3 at 5:30 PM, Westside Kingdom Kids is turning every Wednesday night into a summer adventure filled with fun, worship, games, lessons, friends, prizes, crafts, and unforgettable memories! Thanks for checking us out at Westside. Some folks have labeled us, "The Sinner's Church..." Why? The Simple Answer: We are a perfect place for imperfect people. We all have a story to tell. We all come with a past and our own amount of baggage. Our Goal as a church is simple: love God and love people... pure and simple (Matthew 22:37-40). So while we may all enter here as sinners, the Lord continues to change lives one sinner at a time. He can change your life today! He continues to rescue and heal and deliver. So if you feel like you're a sinner that won't be welcome at a church nearby, then you'll definitely want to come and check out Westside. It's a place you can call home. It's a place where we'll introduce you to Jesus. He'll accept you just as you are... but Praise The Lord you won't stay that way. He turns sinners into saints every single day.
